| In the summer of 1972 in Oregon City, Oregon, two friends began to dabble in a new fitness hobby, kicking around the end of a sock filled with beans. They began to imagine a bright future for their new pastime they called "Hackin' the Sack". The rest, as they say, is history. Today, millions of footbags (including the Hacky Sack® brand) are sold each year and the cooperative style of play is enjoyed by young and old the world over. At the same time, footbag's competitive games have hit home with athletes and coaches since 1980 thanks to the highly publicized World Footbag Championships (As seen on ESPN, Prime SportsNetwork, and covered in The Wall Street Journal.)
